No, it doesn't—it just delivers your content in a more relevant way. In adaptive learning we create the full learning module, but only require everyone to complete its essential parts. The rest of the module's content is presented as optional detours that learners may take if they wish to find out more about a topic. Adaptive learning takes the same amount of content, but improves its delivery and increases content engagement.
While advanced technology like AI can enhance adaptive learning journeys, special tech is by no means required. For example, many standard authoring tools can allow a learner to advance through a module upon passing an upfront knowledge assessment, without having to work through all its content. We have many low-tech strategies to make certain content optional, so your learning journey is as efficient as possible.
Surprisingly, no. In fact, forcing every learner to watch every video and click on every hotspot and tab doesn't actually mean they're learning. Importantly, one-size-fits-all solutions can drive both novice and expert learners to dislike the training, and so ignore it. When the content feels relevant, learners of all levels will consume and retain it—so the trick is to make the adaptive learning journey relevant to individual needs.
We'll start with an analysis of your audience and their different learning needs. Are there different segments with differing responsibilities regarding the subject? Are there differences in skills and understandings? Are there differences in ambitions and career paths? Adaptive learning heightens engagement (presenting only relevant content to each learner) and is more efficient (learners don't have to waste time on content that isn't relevant to them).
